Off-Grid Living — Book Cover Design
The Brief
Design a book cover for a guide to off-grid living aimed at young adults — curious, eco-conscious, and drawn to the idea of self-sufficiency. The book needed to feel empowering and accessible, not survivalist or overwhelming.
The Approach
The cover had to do a specific job: speak directly to a younger, urban audience who might be romanticising off-grid life without necessarily knowing how to begin it. That meant the visual language needed to feel aspirational and warm rather than rugged or technical. I leaned into illustration as the primary vehicle — it immediately signals that this is an approachable, human guide rather than a dry manual. The composition and colour palette are deliberately hopeful: natural tones, organic forms, a sense of open space and possibility. The typography is clean and confident, grounding the warmth of the illustration with something that feels credible and purposeful. The result is a cover that earns a second look on a shelf — which is ultimately the only job a book cover has to do.
